Assessment Flexibility - Decisions due May 3rd, 2024

K-8 School leaders are able to make their 2024-25 Assessment Flexibility decisions in the areas outlined below. Schools may either opt in to the district-supported assessments, or they may request to opt out of district-supported assessments. The district will conduct a thorough review of the assessment the school is seeking to use alternatively. The district reserves the right of final approval for all district-run schools and Innovation Schools if there are legal concerns. Schools that are approved to use alternative assessment will receive the associated funds as an Earmark to be used only to purchase approved curricular resources.

    Curriculum Flexibility

In alignment with our vision for ensuring high quality instructional materials are present in every classroom, the district is excited to announce new curriculums in the following content areas for SY 24/25:

While we believe the district-sponsored curricula choices will support all DPS schools, we recognize that as Leaders you have a pulse on what your school needs. If you are seeking to use alternative, high quality instructional resources for any of the above content areas, the request to opt-out process will begin on February 8th. We will provide more information on the request to opt-out process in the coming weeks. The opt-out process applies to all district-run traditional, district-run innovation, and iZone schools, regardless of structure or network type.

    About Flexibility

Denver Public Schools believes that all DPS students are entitled to learn with high quality instructional materials, across a comprehensive academic program, to ensure they have equitable access to rigorous instruction. These instructional materials must respect and honor the richly diverse backgrounds and experiences of all our students, especially those historically underserved and underestimated.

By honoring the brilliance and exceptionalities of each student and supporting their development as leaders and global citizens, students will be ready to write their own success narrative and every learner will thrive.
